Today, the world defense industry continues to lead world technology. It is striking that the proportion of research and development spending is gradually increasing with the world's defense industry spending. Currently, China finances it defense industry with a ratio to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of more than 300 percent. The proportion of research and development spending is also increasing in the fund that is allocated to the Chinese defense industry. On the other hand, the proportion of research and development spending is also rising in the defense industry spending of developing countries. This is a significant development that tells us of a new economic and political period.
The defense industry does not only concern weapons and wars, but it is also an area where humanity protects, shares and manages existing things, therefore, progress constitutes the basic dynamic of this area. The communication technologies that we use today, including computers and the Internet, are the products of the defense industry. Defense industry technology is innovative by its very nature. Therefore, social developments in all fields and technology, particularly defense industry technology, stimulate each other. For instance, as an engineering masterpiece, the composite bow had a significant role in the enlargement of the Ottoman Empire. As it has always been told that the composite bow, together with the cannon ball technology that was used during the Conquest of Constantinople, shows us that the development was not achieved with brute force.
Throughout this period, the Ottoman Empire created a distinctive and unique civilization thanks to geniuses like Mimar Sinan. With the Industrial Revolution (here, the Crimean War is a critical milestone), the West started to build its superiority that it has reached today. If you pay attention, the Crimean War of 1853 was a war, where weapons, military engineering and transportation technologies, which were the products of the Industrial Revolution, were tested. This date is at the same time the beginning of the financial downfall that dragged the Ottoman Empire to the Ottoman Public Debt Administration. Now, Turkey has begun to take strong and rapid steps, starting from the point when the Ottoman Empire lost, with the defense industry taking the lead. These steps will certainly make NATO stronger and contribute positively to world peace. Taking all this into consideration, it is possible to argue that the defense industry is the essence and the highest level of a society's overall technological accumulation. It also indicates the future, in that if you have started to close the gap in your defense industry, you can unabatedly progress in this field.
Today, developing countries, from China to Eastern Europe, including Asia Pacific, Turkey and Asia Minor, are taking significant steps in two important fields. The first one is that they free technology from the field of application and take it to the fields of development and creation. The second one is that they have started to make use of their own natural resources, particularly energy. This tells us of a new political period. During the period of the Cold War, there were two détentes. With the demolition of the Berlin Wall in 1989, this turned into Western hegemony under the leadership of the U.S.; however, today we are heading toward a new multiple world system - détente.
In this multiple world system, defense industry technology will be a propulsive force. It is an important development for humanity that developing countries are catching up with the West in technology under the leadership of Asia. This development will also serve for overall prosperity and the peace of humanity, since the poverty rate and inequality in the world income distribution, which is no longer sustainable, will go down rapidly. Thus, we will minimize systemic problems and move away from the possibility of a total world war. Consequently, developed counties of the West should not raise a political objection to this important rise of the developing countries of the East, because, the fact that the East is keeping up with the West in terms of economic prosperity, is also a golden opportunity for the West. In other words, the "ReOrient" period is a historical and a unique option not only for the East, but for all countries.
