It is clear that someone somewhere out there in the world is trying to create the impression that the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) is on the way to an elections defeat and that the Turkish economy is sinking. It is sad that they have collaborators in Turkey who are fanning this propaganda inside Turkey as well claiming that the public opinion polls show that the AK Party will be defeated and a coalition of the opposition forces will come to power.
This all seems to be a great, big perception campaign built on the hope that the inevitable political erosion in support for a party that has ruled the country for 12 years. They think that the worsening income distribution picture in Turkey, the claims of corruption involving AK Party people and the fact that the government has been involved in a bitter war of attrition with the Gülen Movement will dampen AK Party votes and propel the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the conservative Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) to power.
What they do not understand is that given the world conditions the AK Party has done an excellent job running the economy and creating a healthy economic structure. If the Turkish people did not really feel the economic shocks that are being experienced in other countries it is the success of those who are running the economy, both in government and at places like the Central Bank. The social assistance provided to the man in the street is massive by world standards and the government has managed to sustain this level of aid to citizens without a glitch.
Despite its shortcomings we have a functioning health and education system with massive investments. We also have a flourishing domestic defense industry that has put us on the map.
The fact that the AK Party has introduced the reconciliation process with the country's Kurds is a great plus for the government.
The AK Party has made mistakes, some of its members have been involved in wrongdoings and there is still question marks about how it was blinded by the Gülen Movement for all these years but the people see clearly that the government has served Turkey well given the conditions, and no one wants to get into an adventure into the unknown by handing the AK party a defeat at the polls. It is clear that the AK Party may lose some votes but at the end of the day it will still win a comfortable majority.
The myths that the Turkish economy is sinking is a colossal lie and a part of a deception campaign. If the Turkish economy is faltering then why have three foreign companies purchased Turkish companies in the past few weeks?
Why did the French Lactalis, the 15th largest dairy processing company in the world, purchase the Turkish giant AK Gıda owned by the massive Yıldız Holding Company?
Why did the Germany-based company Delivery Hero purchase the Yemeksepeti website for $589 million?
Why did Qatar's Mayhoola Fund buy 30.7 percent of the giant Boyner Holding retail company?
All these companies displayed their confidence in the future of the Turkish economy thanks to the AK Party government. Can anyone dispute this?
