Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will visit Turkey on March 9-10, scheduled to hold separate bilateral meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, as part of the fifth high-level strategic cooperation council between Ukraine and Turkey.
President Poroshenko will also meet Parliamentary speaker İsmail Kahraman, the Ukrainian presidential press office said. He will discuss economic issues and trade with Turkey.
Poroshenko underscored the significance of the visit and joint council meeting. "We will meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to strengthen our defense system and support our strong political and economic union," he said.
Turkey and Ukraine have drawn closer in relations, particularly after Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet along the Turkish-Syrian border in November.
Prime Minister Davutoğlu visited Ukraine in mid-February and sent a firm message regarding Crimea to Russian President Vladimir Putin at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Arseniy Yatsenyuk. "Crimea is part of Ukrainian soil," Davutoğlu asserted.
