The proportion of households living below the poverty threshold in 2014 was 22.4 percent, according to data released yesterday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). Dependent children are defined as children who are under 25, economically inactive and living with at least one parent. The poverty rate of households with dependent children was 27.2 percent, 3.5 times higher than that of households with no dependent children at 7.7 percent.
