Number of debtors who failed to pay obligations up 5 pct

The number of people facing legal proceedings due to consumer loan or credit card debt has risen to 404,000, increasing 5 percent during the first quarter compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Bank Association of Turkey Risk Center's March 2016 Non-Performing Consumer Loans and Credit Card Report.
The data was obtained by ranking those people who have more than one record within the same year.
The number of people facing legal proceedings due to consumer loans rose to 207,000, an 18 percent increase, during the first quarter compared to the same period of 2015, while the number of people facing legal proceedings due to consumer credit card debts dropped to 287,000, decreasing 1 percent during the same period.
