Cemil Ertem, the chief economic adviser to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has stated that the exchange rate should be left to the markets, adding that the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) will not intervene in the exchange rate.
Making comments on the economic agenda in a televised interview, Ertem said the rise in the dollar-lira exchange rate does not point to a crisis.
He stressed that the CBRT's step has alleviated markets and the bank will not intervene.
Pointing out that the rise in the dollar is a "global wave," Ertem stated the CBRT will take the necessary steps.
He further said that Turkey will swiftly carry out "market-friendly" reforms and will revise indirect taxation.
