US welcomes EU sanctions extension, unity against Russia

The US welcomes the European Union's extension of sanctions on Russia over its actions in Ukraine and stresses the international community remains united against Moscow's aggression.

The move is "an indication of the international community's resolve to making sure that President (Vladimir) Putin respects basic international norms," White House spokesman Josh Earnest says.

The State Department stresses the sanctions are linked to implementation of the Minsk peace plan.

"We hope all countries will condemn Russia's aggressive actions in Ukraine, and will join the international community in imposing sanctions," spokesman John Kirby says.
