Three U.N. peacekeepers stole a watch from a Turkish store on Monday in northern Cyprus while they were on their weekend off, surveillance footage released by the store owner showed.
The video shows three peacekeepers, who were identified as Dayle Curan, Michel Fletchel and Mataiasi Cosu, entering the store, and then the two of them trying to distract the shop assistant's attention while the other one checks some items on the shelves. He then opens the watch cabinet and quickly puts one into his pocket.
The shop assistant, Erdi E. said that the soldiers were regular customers.
The owner said that U.N. military officials came to the store to examine the incident, and legal proceedings have begun against the three soldiers.
A separate investigation has also been opened by Lefkosa police.
