Born in Syracuse, New York, Meltem Ege began her musical journey by playing piano when she was seven years old. She returned to Turkey with her family in 1991 and received a degree in piano from Bilkent University. She started singing during her university years and gained experienced in various genres including rock, funk, R&B and jazz. She attended the "Dom Chemika" summer school in Poland in 2006. The artist entered the Nardis Jazz Voice Competition in Istanbul where she won first place and was chosen to represent her country in the 2007 Lady Summertime Jazz Competition in Finland. She also won first place in the 2008 Jazz Voices Competition in Lithuania. She completed her education at Berklee College of Music where she was invited for a merit-based scholarship in only three years. In 2009 she won second place in the Songs for Social Change Songwriting Competition, and in 2010, she was awarded the Voice Department Achievement Award by the Faculty, Chair and Dean based on her "outstanding achievement in her major and her contributions to the department." In 2010, she graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Vocal Performance as "a summa cum laude" student. Apart from working with important artists like Rhinannon, Joey Blake, Bob Stoldoff, Lisa Thorson and Steve Santoro during her education, she has also received many awards. Upon returning to Turkey, she began working at Ankara Bilkent University as a research assistant. In August 2014, she moved to Los Angeles for her PhD studies at the California Institute of the Arts. Ege's concert on the New Year's Eve will be a joy for the ears for jazz lovers in Istanbul.
