With the contributions of the Austria Culture Office, the photos of Austrian-born Inge Morath - one of the most important female photographers in history - are on display at the Austria Saint-Georges Hospital in Istanbul. Seventy-seven photos depict the Danube River flowing from the Schwarz Wald Mountains to the Black Sea and the settlements surrounding it. Morath took the photos over 30 years ago, between 1965 and 1995. Born in 1923, Morath described human stories all around the world during her 79 years. She photographed a large geographical region from Europe, Russia and China to the Middle East and North Africa. The Magnum photographer demonstrates that rivers are not merely composed of water; based on a humanistic visual language, the photos display the diversity of civilizations flourished around the river. Morath also documented how the river both harmonized and separated different cultures over years.
