Collective exhibition deals with change of perception

by Daily Sabah

ISTANBUL Oct 01, 2015 - 12:00 am GMT+3

Curated by Denizhan Özer, the group exhibition "İçimdeki Meleği Öldürdüm" (I Killed the Angel Inside of Me) will be displayed at Akademililer Art Gallery in Beyoğlu until Oct. 17. The exhibition, which is being showcased as part of the 14th Istanbul Biennial, is questioning modern people who internalize violence and make it part of their daily lives. The exhibition features the paintings, sculptures and photographs of Joachim Seinfeld, Çiğdem Menteşoğlu, Zarko Jakimovsky, Süleyman Erdal, Özge Kul, Martin Wolwent, Sema Maşkılı, Marat Bekeyev, Yıldız Doyran and Deniz Pireci. The transformation of our general view of life into objects that shape culture while claiming a crucial role in our lives and the change in our perception of the world creates a dilemma for the modern man. The violence around the world is internalized and becomes a part of identity, changing the course of people's lives. As a result, the individuals kill the angels within themselves and move away from positive thinking as well as a humane lifestyle. The exhibition aims to glorify positive thinking and presents the dilemmas people experience in their lives. The exhibition can be visited from 11.00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m, every day except for Sundays.

When: Until Oct. 17
