Liverpool's former manager Bill Shankly once said "Football is not a matter of life and death. It is much more important than that." These words have come true in Belgium thanks to a fan of Club Brugge, who are Beşiktaş's rivals in the Europa League quarter-final. The fan, named Lorenzo Schoonbaert, caught a terminal disease and his last wish before death was to watch a Brugge game. So, he delayed his euthanasia process and came to Brugge's Jan Breydel stadium with his daughter to watch the match between his club and Mouscron-Peruwelz on Sunday. The 41-year-old fan was met with great fanfare in the stadium by 20,000 fellow Brugge fans. He toured the stadium and waved his hands along with his little daughter. The Brugge fans unfurled a banner, read "You will never walk alone," a statement made famous by Liverpool which has been appropriated by fans from around the world. While Brugge beat their rivals 3-1, Schoonbaert could not hold back his tears and said, "My last wish has come true. I can die in peace now. I will make the celebration in heaven." One day later, his family said in a statement through Facebook that Lorenzo's life was ended with a lethal injection.
