The Hygiene Council of Turkey announced the top 10 dirty items posing health risks in 2015. According to the list, pop tabs on aluminum cans and its surrounding side are the dirtiest and least hygienic item followed by door handles, toilet handles and taps at public restrooms. Side dishes offered with fast food and çiğ köfte (the Turkish version of steak tartar) ranked third on the list. Banknotes, handrails in shared spaces, restaurant and cafe menus, water dispensers in shared spaces, hookah tubes, ice machines that are not regularly controlled and towels and tools at beauty salons are the other dirtiest items, the council reported. Aiming to raise awareness for public health and hygiene, the Hygiene Council team includes food engineers, veterinarians, lawyers, academics and health experts.
