Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is preparing an accident risk map for Turkey's most populated city, which is known for its extremely heavy traffic. The map aims to reduce fatalities and injuries stemming from accidents. Hot spots where accidents frequently occur will be determined with the map.
The municipality will also look into causes of accidents and implement measures to prevent accidents on risky roads and intersections. Medical aid and rescue services and their efficiency will also be examined in the map project, which will help to provide solutions for faster medical aid after the accidents.
The map project will also look into accidents involving pedestrians and will look into likely errors in regulating traffic on the roads. Officials also calculate the cost of accidents. The project is scheduled to be wrapped up in one year and will be the basis for a traffic safety plan for Istanbul.
