Turkish inventor Hakan Gürsu has found a solution for charging batteries, a consistent problem in the modern world of smartphones and other gadgets. Gürsu, who works at the Middle East University Technopark, won the golden medal for his solar-powered battery charger at the Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Competition held in China. Thanks to Gürsu's design, phones and electronic devices with USB ports can be charged using solar panels in the future. During the competition, which had senior officials of Samsung and Nokia as jury members, the design named "Torchia" stood out with battery and lightening units powered by solar energy. The small solar panel with two USB inputs is capable of charging a smartphone in "a very short time." Gürsu's company, which he started five years ago, is among the "40 Most Successful Entrepreneur Companies" in Turkey. In the last five years, the inventor has won awards in 130 international design competitions.
