Turkish NGO clinic serves 10,000 people in Senegal

A community clinic in Senegal has begun operating after being repaired by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), and is now providing service to 10,000 people.

Located in the town of Mbolo Birane, 700 kilometers from the Senegalese capital Dakar near the Mauritanian border, the clinic re-opened with a ceremony with Senegalese President Macky Sall in attendance.

The clinic's delivery room, pharmacy, treatment center, medical dressing room and vaccination room were repaired by TİKA, while the organization also constructed new rooms for the clinic and provided medical equipment.

The clinic services 10,000 people who live in nearby villages, and provides medical treatment to approximately 20 patients per day. The people in the region suffer from high rates of diarrhea, hypertension, poor nutrition, acute upper respiratory tract infections and diabetes.

TİKA's work in Africa has increased in recent years. Opened in March by TİKA in Sudan, the Sudan-Turkey Vocational and Technical Instructor Education Center offers international education in nine different fields. It is regarded as one of Sudan's most effective and modern education centers.

The education center is spread over a 5,000-square-meter area and provides education that meets international requirements in machine technologies, mechatronics, furniture and decoration, air-conditioning and cooling, electric, electronic, computer programming and tourism and hotel management. So far, nearly 1,000 people have been educated at the center.
