Porn addiction triggered by terror, unemployment

by

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey Aug 11, 2015 - 12:00 am GMT+3
by Aug 11, 2015 12:00 am
Sociologist, family consultant and vice chancellor of Dicle University, Professor Sabri Eyigün, said Diyarbakır, Erzurum and Adana ranked at the top with regards to the highest rate of online searches for porn movies, according to recent statistics, and the situation is rooted in many socio-cultural and economic reasons.Eyigün underscored that the results should be analyzed by social scientist in order to protect the mental health of society. "There are three basic reasons for the high rate of porn addiction in Diyarbakır. First, the Internet penetration rate has rapidly increased in the region in recent years. This is a somehow uncontrollable rise, as people's point of view about the Internet is not based through education. The second reason is the content that stimulates sexuality through films, pictures, TV shows, et cetera, soars due to urbanization and capitalist consumption habits. The third reason is the most important, though, and pertains to the problems being specifically related to the region; the high unemployment rate and unplanned urbanization, which originated from heavy migration flows to the city in recent years. Those who are unemployed, especially the youth, are unqualified. This situation limits their chances for employment and also dims their future expectations. Youth spend most of their time in Internet cafes and at their houses watching porn."

He also stressed that ideology suggested by terrorist organizations causes a lack of morality and religious values among the youth that live in the region. "Even though the region is normally known as conservative, the predominating ideological perception created a youth who don't have any values but only ethnical Kurdish nationalism. The self-control of individuals weakened due to the reduction of religious values." he concluded.
