An endemic frog species that doesn't crock, the endangered Taurus Frogs (Rana Holtzi) attracts the attention of both foreign and domestic tourists in the Karagöl and Çiniligöl areas located on Bolkar Mountains in Ulukışla district of the central Anatolian Niğde province.
The "tongue-tied" frogs that live over 2,500-3,000 meters altitude are around 6-7.5 centimeters long and their originality comes from its "interior vocal sac" and deep silence.
"They have soft, flat and thin skin, with yellow, dark green and pinkish traits. Near their heads are temporal strips. The male frogs have an interior vocal sac and they don't crock as other frogs do," said Niğde Culture and Tourism Manager Hüseyin Demirtaş, adding that the "endemic" species are under protection. The wow of slience of these frogs continue to draw in tourists, climbers and nature discoverers.
