A local taxi stand in Ankara's Çubuk district offers women-friendly service with two female taxi drivers. Following requests from customers, Ömürdede Taxi Stand employed Gül Özdilek and Filiz Çınar, two female taxi drivers who work to support their families.
Previously an unemployed mother, Özdilek said she hesitated as to whether she could drive a taxi when she first saw the job offer, but gave it a chance because she really loves driving. She received criticism from her family who said she might receive mistreatment from other taxi drivers. "I work from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. I have not had any problems with my colleagues. I offer service only to female customers," Özdilek said.
Çınar, also a mother of two children, said her family is happy with her job and supports what she is doing. "I like my job," she said. Serhat Ünalan, the owner of the taxi stand, said their customers are satisfied with their practice. "Most of our customers are women and they have given us positive feedback," Ünalan concluded.
