Deloitte's fifth-annual "Global Mobile Consumer Survey" (GMCS), a comprehensive and robust survey of mobile usage around the globe, found that Turkey tops the list of 30 countries in terms of cellphone addiction. The results demonstrated that Turkish users check their phones around 70 times a day, in other words, every 15 minutes. Every nine in 10 users always check their phones within 15 minutes after waking up and most of them look at their social media accounts or messages. Young cellphone addicts also spend around TL 7.5 ($2.53) on mobile apps per month.Additionally, around 20 percent of users check their cellphones when they are crossing the street or driving. Young users are also busy with their phones while spending time with family.
Regarding sharing photos, every one out of two users shares their photos daily on social media platforms. Turkey surpasses other countries, including Brazil, China, Russia and Germany, in this category. Another revealing result was Turkish users constantly change their phones and buy new ones. Only 14 percent of the surveyed users have second-hand cellphones, and they mostly prefer purchasing cellphones at stores.
Turkish users also prefer mobile networks, even in areas with public Wi-Fi. However, almost 60 percent say they use Wi-Fi the most.
The survey included 1,000 Turkish participants between the ages of 18 and 50. In this edition, the survey provided unique insight into the mobile consumer behavior of 49,000 respondents from around the world. The survey's scope ranges from quantifying device ownership and understanding how these are being used and connected. Some of the topics covered include intensity of smartphone use, communication services such as voice calling, voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), video calling, text messaging and instant messaging, mobile payments, after-life of smartphones, fourth-generation mobile technology (4G), multi-play, content creation and consumption using smartphones.
