Winter is here and especially the eastern part of the country has been blanketd by snow since the beginning of December. As roads are covered with snow and ice, locals have a hard time walking straight and, most of the time, they find themselves flat on the ground. If they are lucky enough, nothing happens, but in most cases, they suffer from a broken or dislocated limb.
Gürkan Karaoğlu, a student at Atatürk University in Erzurum, is one of the victims of icy streets. Speaking to the press, he said he was walking with his hands in his pockets and suddenly found himself on the ground with a broken arm.
However, the solution is very simple according to Dr. Recep Dinçer. All you have to do to prevent any falls during winter is to waddle like a penguin when walking.
"Choice of shoes is very important, but the way we walk is crucial. Walking with your hands in your pockets is a call for disaster. It is better to walk with your legs open, like a penguin. You have to keep your balance with small steps and always think about the next step," said Dr. Dinçer.
