About 50 Palestinians were injured Thursday when an unexploded Israeli ordnance went off at a camp of Palestinian faction Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Health Ministry has said.
The blast which rocked the northern town of Beit Lahia left at least 50 people with various injuries, ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qodra told Anadolu Agency.
"Most of the injuries ranged between light and moderate, but some are also serious," he added.
Eyewitnesses, meanwhile, said that the blast took place inside a military training camp run by Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' armed wing, in Beit Lahia.
Plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the site in the wake of the explosion which also damaged some nearby houses, they added.
The Interior Ministry said on Facebook that the blast was caused by the explosion of a missile fired during the latest Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip by an Israeli F-16 fighter jet.
More than 2,160 Gazans, mostly civilians, were killed-and another 11,000 injured-during seven weeks of unrelenting Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip last summer.
The Israeli offensive finally ended on Aug. 26 with the announcement of an Egyptian-brokered indefinite cease-fire with Palestinian resistance factions.
