Deniz Irem Gür, a 22-year-old Turkish pianist, has won first place at the 12th International Piano Competition Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem in Morocco.

The award ceremony of the competition was held at the 5th Muhammed Theater Hall in Morroco's capital Rabat.

Turkey's Rabat ambassador Ethem Barkan Öz, as well as many other foreign representatives attended the ceremony.

Pianist Gür, who continues her musical education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, shared her first rank in the "Young Pianist" category with Russian pianist Konnov Evgeni.

Russian Korkin Mikhail came second followed by South Korean Jungwook Lee and Moroccan Berrada Lina at the third rank.

Deniz Irem Gür said in a statement that she was proud of representing Turkey in an international competition.

"I hope these awards keep coming. My next goal is to represent my country the best I can at other international competitions and concerts," Gür added.

The International Piano Competition HRH Princess Lalla Meryem has been organized every other year in Rabat since 1994.

95 pianists from 26 different countries attended this years' competition. The highest ranking pianists performed at the competition before the award ceremony.
