Renowned house music DJ and producer Robert Miles dead at 47

Robert Miles, the Italian DJ and producer who acquired global fame in the 1990s with the trance music hit "Children," has died from cancer at the age of 47.

"Roberto passed away peacefully last night after fighting a brave battle against an aggressive cancer for six months," his radio station Open Lab FM said Wednesday.

Miles' real name was Roberto Concina. He was born in Switzerland of Italian immigrant parents, and grew up in the Italian north-eastern region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

He lived on the Spanish island of Ibiza, where he founded Open Lab FM in 2013.

His classic single "Children," which came out in 1994, has sold more than 5 million copies and was the number one seller on the Euro Top 100 chart for 13 consecutive weeks.

Pete Tong, a leading British dance DJ, paid his tributes on Twitter.

"Sad to hear Robert Miles passing r.i.p thanks for the music," he wrote.

British singer and DJ Boy George also saluted the late artist on Twitter, "R.I.P Robert Miles. Very sad news!"
