Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu highlighted the importance of women in society and stated that Turkey needs a larger female workforce if it wants to be one of the top ten global economies. He made the statement while speaking at the Woman's Branch of the AK Party's "Women in Local Administration" Program in Ankara.
"Neither our history and religion, or our cultural heritage have approved of mistreating women or discriminating against them," said Davutoğlu, who stated that women are an active part of the social life in Turkish tradition, while noting that women have never played, and cannot play, a passive role.
