Gülen Movement-affiliated former interior minister and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputy, İdris Naim Şahin, who parted ways with the AK Party following the December 17 operation, which was allegedly carried out by the Gülen Movement to topple the government, will reportedly be running as a deputy candidate under the alliance of two right wing parties.
The minor Nation and Justice Party (MİLAD), of which İdris Naim Şahin is a co-chair, is expected to be included in the alliance of the right-wing Felicity Party (SP) and Grand Union Party (BBP) that united under the SP, and Şahin will reportedly be announced as the İzmir deputy candidate.
Şahin reportedly visited SP headquarters on Thursday and his candidacy is expected to be included on the candidate list on April 11 when the BBP and SP alliance is expected to hand over the candidate list to the High Electoral Board (YSK) on Saturday.
In the 2011 general elections, the SP only received 1.2 percent of the vote and the BBP managed to receive only 0.74 percent of the vote. Both parties failed to pass the 10 percent election threshold that is necessary for a party to enter Parliament, according to Turkish election legislation.
