Istanbul 6th High Criminal Court has handed down its ruling regarding the suspects in the charity organization Deniz Feneri e.V case, which involves claims of corruption in the German-based Turkish charity, acquitting some suspects and dropping charges against others. The court had been hearing the cases against the suspects, which varied from fabricating documents to exploiting duty.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had prepared an indictment regarding the 20 suspects accusing them of engaging in irregularities while collecting the funds the association received. The charges against the suspects were fabricating documents, a public officer's taking part in forgery and exploiting trust under the name of service. The indictment was accepted by the Ankara 3rd High Criminal Court, which assessed the file.
However, the court later decided that the case should be in Istanbul, citing lack of authority, and referred it to a court in Istanbul, which delivered the final decision over the case.
