The Governorate of Turkey's eastern province Ağrı has announced on Tuesday that seven PKK terrorists have been killed in an operation carried out in Ağrı and Tendürek Mountains on August 9.
The mountains of Ağrı and Tendürek were declared a "military security zones" for 15 days "because of terror acts", the Ağrı governor's office announced on Aug. 2.
Several areas in eastern and southeastern Turkey have been declared temporary "military security zones" as tension in the region has risen following the July 20 deadly suicide bombing in southeastern Suruç district that killed 32 people. There has since been a surge in attacks targeting security officers.
On Monday, contact was lost with seven customhouse guards working at the Üzumlü border gate in Çukurca district of the southeastern Hakkari province.
They had left Yüksekova district for Çukurca but they did not arrive at the border gate as planned. It is suspected that the customs officers have been kidnapped by PKK terrorists.
