The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has kicked off its snap elections campaign as its deputies have expressed their dissatisfaction with the party policy regarding the PKK terrorist organization.
Having passed the 10 percent national election threshold to enter Parliament thanks to votes not only from Kurds but also leftists and conservatives hoping the party would be a remedy to the problems in Turkey as it had promised during its campaign, the HDP seems to have fallen short of its mission after contradictory statements and a reluctance to condemn the PKK.
According to sources close to Daily Sabah, some senior deputies in the HDP have made their disappointment known inside the party after it failed to condemn or condone the bloody attacks launched by the PKK. Some deputies have praised and defended the attacks, rather than condemning them. The party is on the edge of losing voters from different backgrounds following the intimacy between the HDP and PKK.
With news of slain security officers reported daily leading to heavy criticism of the HDP and PKK by the public, the HDP has agreed on a motto to be used during the new election campaign: "We are on the side of peace, the government on war."
