Türkiye on Wednesday expressed sorrow over a plane crash that occurred earlier on Thursday in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, killing at least 290 people.
“We are deeply saddened by the plane crash that occurred today (12 June) in Ahmedabad, India,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident and to the people of India,” it added.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also extended his condolences over the tragic incident.
"On behalf of the Turkish Nation, I extend my condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured," Erdoğan said on X.
Indian authorities said the crash involved a Boeing 787 Dreamliner that went down shortly after takeoff. Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, and an investigation into the cause is underway.
