Turkish companies' interest in Spanish football giant FC Barcelona continues to grow with Turkish real estate giant Nef recently becoming a new sponsor of Barcelona, while the company's new target is said to be Manchester United.
In order to replicate its success story in the real estate sector to European metropolises, Nef, the main sponsor of the Turkish football club Galatasaray for the past year, has become an official sponsor of FC Barcelona, one of the most prominent football clubs in Europe. The agreement with Barcelona, which currently has more than 50 million club supporters, the most in Europe, was signed on April 18. Nef aims to reinforce its European strategies and intends to tell Turkey's story to the world. Company officials, who said that the agreement is not a jersey sponsorship, stated it is an official sponsorship. The details of the sponsorship deal will be announced in the coming days.
In recent years, many Turkish companies, especially Turkish Airlines (THY), have sponsored sports clubs in Europe. THY sponsored Euroleague Basketball and the World Golf Cup, while Turkey's global home appliance brand Beko sponsored FC Barcelona and Ramsey sponsored Liverpool. THY has increased the number of its sponsorships in recent years, striking major deals with leading football clubs such as FC Barcelona, Manchester United F.C., Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray, Olympique de Marseille, Aston Villa, FK Sarajevo, Hannover 96, and A.S. Roma.
