The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Hayrat Humanitarian Aid Association reported that they will distribute 1 million copies of the Quran in various African countries. Hayrat Humanitarian Aid Association President Hakkı Akgün said in his speech during the ceremony in Sudan that 50,000 copies of the Quran that were published in Turkey arrived in Sudan, and a part of them were distributed in other African countries. He stressed that the remaining copies of the Quran will be distributed within three years. Stating that their support is not restricted to humanitarian aid, Akgül added: "We are trying to carry the torch of Islamic culture and civilization." TİKA's Sudan coordinator, Yahya Acu, said he is trying to strengthen the relationship between Turkey and the countries they support with their development programs. One of the officers in the Turkey's Embassy in Khartoum, Mehmet Tan, said Sudan is a passage to other African countries; hence, they are doing their best to strengthen the relationship between Turkey and these countries.
