As Galatasaray has set its sights on winning the Cup championship for a ticket to Europe, last night they successfully received the one point needed to move on in a draw against Antalyaspor. As for their soccer skills last night however…they showed only enough to make it past this round.
Galatasaray is well aware that their last chance to secure a game played against a European club in the new TT Arena will be through winning the Ziraat Turkey Cup. Going into last night's game, they were also very well aware that even a draw would secure a spot in the semifinals. The number of fans that came out to support Galatasaray in Istanbul was much less than the number of fans that would have come out to Istanbul to support Antalyaspor. The first half consisted of an attempt by Culio in the seventh minute and in the 20th minute by Sabri and then Arda who tried to benefit from the goalkeeper's rebound. There were also a few attempts by Necati to score into Galatasaray's goal post, but that was all…
In the start of the second half, another attempt by Necati, this time from an assist by Djiehoua, missed; which was simply bad luck for Antalyaspor. In the 68th minute, Serkan Kurtulus was sent off after receiving two yellow cards. Left with ten players, Galatasaray did manage to stave off a slightly offensive Antalyaspor. However, with eight points in the Group A standings compared to Antalyaspor's two points, despite last night's draw it appears Galatasaray were the victors as they have secured a spot in the Turkey Cup semifinals.
