Turkish boxers Ferhat Pehlivan and Yasin Yılmaz advanced to the quarter-finals in the Baku 2015 European Games this weekend.
Pehlivan defeated Elie Konki of France 3-0 in the Men's Boxing Fly (52kg) Round of 16 at the Crystal Hall 2 in Baku. Yılmaz eliminated Michal Zatorsky of Slovakia in the Men's Boxing Fly (60kg). Pehlivan will face Italian Vincenzo Picardi and Yılmaz will come up against Sean McComb of Ireland in the quarter-finals tomorrow. Yasemin Anagöz of Turkey, who competed against Line Blomen Ridderstrom of Norway in the Archery Women's Individual 1/32 Elimination, advanced to the quarter-finals too.
İbrahim Çolak of Turkey, who competed in the Men's Rings final on day eight of the Baku 2015 European Games, won the bronze medal. Russian trampoline gymnasts Yana Pavlova and Anna Kornetskaya won gold in the synchronized final by almost two points over silver medalists Marine Jurbert and Joelle Vallez of France. Russian gymnast Dmitry Ushakov, the London 2012 Olympic Games silver medalist, dominated the men's Trampoline finals at the National Gymnastics Arena on Sunday.
Young Italian diver Ruslan Adriano Cristofori completed an extraordinary journey on Saturday night that has taken him from a Ukrainian orphanage all the way to the medal podium. Italian Natalia Valeeva was eliminated from the women's individual competition on Sunday, ending her quest to win a third gold medal from as many events at the Baku 2015 European Games. Michela Castoldi and Davide Donati of Italy won the silver with 21.050, and Dukhik Dzhanazian and Denis Solovev of Russia won the bronze with 20.500 at the National Gymnastics Arena on Sunday.
Spaniard Luis Leon Sanchez, winner of four Tour de France stages but dogged in recent years by alleged links to doping, won the men's road race at the European Games on Sunday.
