Formula 2 and Formula 3 will join Formula 1 at Istanbul Park when the Turkish Grand Prix returns in 2027, giving Turkish motorsport a major three-tier racing weekend and a potential stage for the country's next generation of drivers.
The Turkish Automobile Sports Federation, TOSFED, confirmed that both FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 will be part of the support program for the Turkish Grand Prix at TOSFED Istanbul Park from Oct. 1-3, 2027.
The weekend will mark Formula 2's first appearance at the Istanbul circuit and Formula 3's debut there, with the latter also using the event as the final round of its 2027 season.
The addition of the two championships gives Türkiye more than the return of Formula 1. It creates a full motorsport pathway on the same weekend, bringing together the sport's premier championship and two of its most important feeder series.
Formula 1 announced in April 2026 that the Turkish Grand Prix would return to the calendar in 2027 under a five-year agreement running through 2031.
The deal was reached with Türkiye's Ministry of Youth and Sports, with TOSFED responsible for the local organization and delivery of the event.
The 2027 race is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 3, with the wider Grand Prix weekend running from Friday, Oct. 1, through Sunday, Oct. 3.
Istanbul Park previously hosted Formula 1 between 2005 and 2011 before returning for the 2020 and 2021 seasons during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The circuit, which is roughly 5.3 kilometers long, has built a reputation for its demanding layout, elevation changes, fast corners and overtaking opportunities. Its signature challenge is Turn 8, a long, multi-apex left-hander that has become one of the track's defining features.
Ahead of Formula 1's return, modernization work is being carried out at the facility under TOSFED's supervision to ensure Istanbul Park meets current Formula 1 standards.
The inclusion of Formula 2 and Formula 3 was a key objective for TOSFED as it worked on bringing Formula 1 back to Türkiye.
Both championships are central to the FIA's driver development ladder, with many of their leading competitors eventually progressing to Formula 1.
TOSFED President Eren Üçlertoprağı said having the two series race in Türkiye would give young drivers, including Turkish prospects, the chance to compete at home in front of a large audience.
"During our five-year contract period, we hope to see our young athletes racing on our own track in front of full grandstands during the Turkish Grand Prix weekend," Üçlertoprağı said.
For Turkish motorsport, the significance extends beyond a single race weekend. The opportunity to compete on the same track and under the same spotlight as Formula 1 could provide valuable experience for drivers trying to move through the international racing ladder.
Formula 2 and Formula 3 have long served as the principal proving grounds for drivers targeting Formula 1.
Hosting both championships alongside the Turkish Grand Prix gives Türkiye an opportunity to showcase the entire progression from junior racing to the sport's highest level on one circuit.
TOSFED has previously highlighted the development of young Turkish drivers, including Alp Aksoy, as part of its broader effort to build a stronger domestic talent pool.
Having Formula 2 and Formula 3 in Istanbul could strengthen that effort by allowing emerging Turkish drivers to compete at home while gaining experience in front of domestic fans, teams and sponsors.
It also gives spectators an opportunity to watch potential future Formula 1 drivers before they reach the sport's biggest stage.
The 2027 Turkish Grand Prix will therefore offer a packed three-day program at Istanbul Park, with Formula 1 joined by Formula 2 and Formula 3.
Formula 1 will hold its practice, qualifying and race sessions across the weekend, while the two feeder championships will add their own qualifying and race action.
