Interim Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Feridun Bilgin said companies will make a payment of 2 billion euros to the Treasury as the first part of the 4.5G technology tender before the accreditation ceremony is held next week. While one company will be paying in cash, the other tender winner will be paying in installments. All value-added tax (VAT) on the tender will be paid in cash. Bilgin stressed that the 4.5G tender, which was held on Aug. 26, is important since the number of wideband subscribers in Turkey is 46.6 million while the number of mobile subscribers is 72 million. The number of mobile wideband Internet subscribers is 37.5 million and the number of 3G subscribers is more than 63 million. Bilgin added that daily increase in demand necessitated the tender. "We monetized more than 4 billion euros with the variation arising from VAT and deferred payments. There are innovations in this part; obligations of coverage zones brought in railroads, highways and more than 1 kilometer of tunnels," he said.
