Turkish Airlines will soon be taking on a worldwide first by way of providing live television broadcasts and internet service on flights. Soon passengers will be able to watch games live while flying.
Turkish Airlines (THY) will be adding a new Global Communication Suite (GCS) system, developed by Panasonic Avionics Corporation to the PLANET entertainment system on intercontinental flights. With this system, passengers will be able to watch simultaneous television broadcasts on the IFE entertainment system for the first time ever. Within a short time period, and after receiving approval, Turkish Airlines passengers will be able to use the internet and access their e-mails. According to an announcement from the THY Press Consultants, with the IFE entertainment system which has already begun to be installed on planes, passengers will be able to watch simultaneous broadcasts for the first time ever and will be able to access Miles&Smiles and customer relations departments online from screens located on the back of seats. The first-ever live broadcasts available on intercontinental flights from individual screens will initially begin to provide continuous broadcasts for passengers from the BBC World, BBC Arabic and Euronews channels. Soon, channels that broadcast in Turkish and sports channels will also be added to the service.
The announcement by THY states that the next step with the GCS system will be to provide wireless-wifi service and soon after approval is received from the related parties Turkish Airlines passengers will be able to use the internet and access their e-mails. Passengers will be able to use their credit cards to obtain a password. Both computers and telephones will be able to connect to the internet through wireless-wifi.
