The successful implementation of the İstanbulkart, İETT's metropolitan ticketing system, has been selected as one of three finalists in the Mastercard Transport Ticketing Awards.
Held in London every year, the Mastercard Transport Ticketing Awards are handed out to winners in five categories; Best overall service implementation, Best bank-card ticketing scheme, Best smart card ticketing service, Most successful mobile ticketing programme and Best ticketing technology of the year.
Introduced in March, 2009 the İstanbulkart is a contactless smart card system for fare payment for public transportation in Istanbul. İETT's electronic ticketing project was shortlisted by a selective board amongst a wide number of applicants from all over the world in the category of Best overall service implementation. The other two contenders for this category which "recognizes a system integrator who has developed a truly innovative transport ticketing programme," is Australia's Parkeon's SmartRider system in Perth and London, England's Cubic Ticketing Services.
After projects are shortlisted in groups of three finalists, the winner is determined through an online voting system. January 18th is the final day to vote at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KF7HP37.
The winners will be awarded at the Transport Ticketing 2013 Conference and Expo held in London from January 28th to the 30th.
