Tohma Canyon, a hidden paradise full of historical and natural beauties in Malatya's Darende district, mesmerizes visitors with its colorful fall landscape.
Taking its shape with the diffraction in the geological periods and carrying the streaming water between the bluffs, Tohma Canyon is the destination for nature lovers wanting to get away from the stress of urban life.
Featuring painting-like landscapes in autumn, Tohma Canyon offers an opportunity for its visitors to rest in a unique landscape along with a chance for shutterbugs to take amazing photos. Those who want to immortalize their special day, such as an engagement or a wedding, benefit from the landscape, which is just like a natural studio.
The canyon, just a short walking distance from Somuncu Baba Mosque, offers an unprecedented resting spot with its wooden bridges, natural mini waterfalls, water arches, walking trails and little cafes near Tohma.
Declared as a first-degree protected area, the canyon is suitable for nature and water sports such as rafting, trekking, zip-lining, climbing and canoeing on a six-kilometer-long track.
Convenient for fishing with its cold and fresh water, Tohma Stream offers the region's most delicious salmon to local and foreign visitors.
While the entrance to the canyon is free of charge, those who want to enjoy some alone time in nature can camp in certain areas in the valley.
Particularly those who come to the region to spend time in the peaceful environment or do sports during the weekends will enjoy the nature of Tohma Canyon, which gets more beautiful with all of the autumn colors. Here, visitors experience the beauty of autumn with the ivies' different shades of crimson and yellow.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), Hatice Ergün, who came to the canyon to have some quality time with her family, said it was her first time in the region and invited nature lovers to see this unspoiled wonder of nature.
Kadriye Altay, who came to Malatya from the Denizli province, said Tohma Canyon was as good as Saklıkent Canyon in Fethiye in the Muğla district. Suggesting that this place should be promoted more, Altay said, "This place lacks promotion. Visitors who come here can benefit from both nature and belief tourism due to Somuncu Baba Mosque. It offers different alternatives in comparison to other canyons. It does not serve as a single tourism and trip center unlike other places. I am happy to be here."
