'The OIC committee has reached Damascus'
Responding to the question, "What did you recommend the U.S. administration in regards to Syria?" İhsanoğlu emphasized that they are against any form of military intervention in Syria and desire for this crisis to be overcome through negotiations.
İhsanoğlu went on to state: "In actuality, in regards to Syria, the U.S. administration, like us, is also against military intervention. We want this crisis to be overcome through deliberations. We will give all of the support we can to ensure that UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Kofi Annan's mission is successful. Kofi Annan will be giving a briefing at the UN Security Council. We believe that in order for Annan's efforts to reach a stronger point from here on out, everyone needs to collaborate in taking further steps."
Responding to a question regarding the OIC's offering to provide humanitarian aid to Syria and a joint committee of OIC and the UN heading to Syria in order to determine humanitarian aid needs, İhsanoğlu announced that the OIC committee arrived in Damascus today.
