Emphasizing that the investigation being held on the February 28th post modern coup is in no way intended to be a form of revenge, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan states,"Those who step on the nation's will and disrespect the nation's ruling, will be held accountable. Even if 15 years have passed or even 30 years go by, those who tramp on the nation's volition will sooner or later have to face the court and be held accountable in the face of the law."
In a statement directed at CHP, the main opposition party, Erdoğan states, "You are willing to settle accounts for the September 12th coup, but when it comes to trials held on the May 27th and September 28th coups, which you benefitted from, you call it revenge." This is double-faced politics and in bad form."
Speaking at the AK Party's Tekirdağ 4th Extraordinary Provincial Congress, Erdoğan went on to deliver the following messages:
"Unfortunately, for decades politics in this country was under custody. There were always dark clouds over politics. Non-political forces have always overshadowed this nation's politics in order for their own volition to prevail over the will of the nation. Some people never recognized the national will of this country. The will of Turkey's Grand National Assembly was not recognized. They did not respect the words of the Veteran Mustafa Kemal who said that the nation's reign unconditionally and absolutely belongs to the public.
They have always belittled the nation's volition and preferences. They have brought down those in duty who were voted for in national elections by force using weapons, conspiracies, pressure and provocation. This is the mentality of the main opposition. What was the call made by CHP just before the latest elections. They called the military to duty. What do you have in common with democracy?
We have never sought revenge or pursued a settlign of accounts. We said, justice will be manifested. The judiciary is currently fulfilling its duty. On May 27th, 1960 a government which was in power with the public's vote was overthrown. The Prime Minister and two of his camarades were executed. What happened? They were not killed by the public. No one has forgotten Menderes. No one has forgotten Fatin Rüştü Zorlu. No one has forgotten Hasan Polatkan. However, no one remembers those who sentenced them to death. Why, because, they were insignificant. When asked why they did it, their answer was quite significant. They responded by saying they made the ruling because it was ordered by the forces that brought them on.
They intervened with the government that was voted in with the nation's approval on March 12th, 1971. Democracy was put on hold once again in 1980. The nation's will was once again trampled on by tanks and on February 28th, 1997 the government that was voted in power by the public was once again overthrown. Turkey has had to pay a heavy price for these coups. Turkey's economy regressed by dozens of years. Both democracy and democratic standards went back dozens of years.
Everyone should know that those who step on the nation's will and disrespect the nation's ruling, will be held accountable. Even if 15 years have passed or even 30 years go by, those who tramp on the nation's volition will sooner or later have to face the court and be held accountable in the face of the law. No one is privileged or immune in the face of the law. The day will come when those who oppressed the children of this nation will be held accountable in the face of the law. Everyone needs to see and understand that Turkey is no longer the Turkey it was.
We have held reforms in order to strengthen the public will. Because we do not want our youth, our children to pay the price we were made to. The current investigation into February 18th, is absolutely not being conducted with sentiments of revenge. This investigation was started and continues in a democratic country where the law is superior. For those who lined up to be co-plaintiffs in the September 12th, trial to use the word revenge in connection to the February 28th investigation is bad form and hypocricy. This is double-faced politics. We would have liked for CHP to announce that they would be co-plaintiffs in the February 28th case. He should offer his wishes that the investigation is beneficial. He should express that he will assist the judiciary. However, when a case was opened on closing down our party, CHP stated, "It turns out there were judges in Ankara." Later they tried to benefit from interventions. They will never come to power through the nation's will but only through intervention. This is not politics.
A party chairman who contradicts himself five times a day is not only a misfortune for CHP bt also for all of Turkey. Watch out, he turns right. He says, 'May 27th should never have happened. What happened to Menderes and his friends was a shame. CHP is against coups.' The he turns left, and stands up for Ergenekon. He calls the February 28th investigation revenge. Believe me; a windmill doesn't turn this much in a day.
Not the September 12th coup, nor the February 28th coup nor any others are being questioned with sentiments of revenge, they are being investigated on behalf of the nation and the nation's will. It is being done not to benefit the AK Party, but to benefit Turkey, the public as well as CHP. We presented our proposal to form a research committee to the presidency. We are conducting this trial in order to ensure that Turkey's stability is never overshadowed again. The youth should follow this process in order to see where we have come.
'A manager I appointed was indexed'
They indexed our people, they kept tabs and followed them. I appointed a general manager during my prime ministry. They go to the home of the general manager that I appointed. They question what kind of person this is? How is his lifestyle? This is what they look at? They look to see who comes in and out of his house. This was all done. Furthermore, this happened within the past nine and a half year period. However, thank goodness for the past two to three years now, we have been saved from this. We said that we would never conduct religious nationalism. We do not only serve Muslims. Are there minorities in our country, there are. We will also serve them. We have built roads, residences, dams, however what the AK Party has rebuilt most of all is democracy. We have returned the esteem of national will. No one can issue heavy bills to be paid in this country, nor make them pay a heavy price."
