Coup attempts, various kinds of movements, conspiracies, always on the agenda...
By Mehmet Barlas
This land is unique. Just think about it… You are the successor of an empire that had the upper hand across three continents for 600 years... After establishing the Republic, you took drastic measures to become ''Western'', including the changing of your alphabet. You've become a founding member of the European Council, a member of NATO and an applicant country to the EU…
Yet, regardless of all this, Turkish politics became scene to ploy seen in third world countries alone. Aren't those so called "intellectuals" carried away by Mao's words, "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun", the same ones who sought to find themselves through military coups in the pursuit of a Nationalist Democrat Revolution?
How is possible to rationalize why certain sane, literate intellectuals who have moved on from their adolescence continue to remain fixated on ousting Erdogan in the face of our latest spiral of crises?
Kurdish peace makes no difference
Let us say that you have accepted the Kurdish problem as a reality. And finally, the problem shifted ground from military to a more political one… This risky political was even supported by Abdullah Ocalan who said, "Arms must now be replaced by politics."
However, regardless of these facts, those having the "shadow government reflex" and a mindset influenced by the "official ideology" stop at nothing to hinder this process. Coup attempts, various kinds of movements, conspiracies, always on the agenda...
Moreover, the operatives of various components such as oil, which constitutes the Mid-East complex are also displeased with the "Peace Process".
Shadow government reality
Given the current political climate, how can you be so fixated on ousting Erdogan, back the Gezi movement and side with the shadow government rather than the people within?
Well, that's the way it works here…
Let us say that you loathe Erdogan for any given number of reasons... Perhaps you don't like the way he uses Hakan Fidan, head of MIT (National Intelligence Agency) in Kurdish politics... Perhaps this is the reason you are now accusing Abdullah Ocalan for "betraying the cause"… whom you were once so keen on praising.
Yet, does the solution to be rid of Erdogan not lie within the democracy, replacing him with another prime minister, giving power to another party? Should you not be backing the main opposition party, CHP?
Well, that's the way it works here…
It is crystal clear that you don't prefer CHP, MHP or DSP either! So what then? Is the other alternative to turn the clocks back to the 1960s and 70s and become a Nationalist Democrat Revolutionary once more? Do we need to stage the same stupidity one more time and lend an ear to the CIA, MOSSAD and the "Barons of February 28" to oust Erdogan, rather than hearing the voice of the people pining for peace and development.
Since the regular "armed forces" are now excluded from politics, must you turn to "post-modern industrial armed forces"? Are you placing yourselves somewhere between Fethullah Gulen and Cem Boyner? Long story short, it isn't about siding with the government, it is about choosing peace, progress, stability and democracy… It is about siding with Turkey…
