Warm weather and the opportunity to dine amid one of the world's most famous skylines drew thousands to Istanbul's Sultanahmet Square on Saturday to break their first fast of this year's Ramadan
TheFatih Municipality, which is in charge of services in the historical heart of Istanbul, held a free iftar meal late on Saturday, where more than 10,000 people flocked to Sultanahmet Square to break their fast on the first day of Ramadan. Thousands enjoyed the world-famous scenery, surrounded by the Hagia Sofia Museum, Sultanahmet Mosque, Topkapı Palace Museum and other historical sites. Fatih Mayor Mustafa Demir wished all a happy Ramadan.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who also attended the mass "iftar" in Sultanahmet Square, said many thousands of people from across the world shared a meal on the first day of Ramadan and wished all a joyful Ramadan.
