A group of lawmakers from the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) have drafted a bill that proposes aggravated life sentences for homicidal domestic violence cases. If Parliament passes the bill, convicts in cases of domestic violence will be penalized with aggravated life sentences if the "crime of deliberate killing is found to be committed with a gender-based motive," referring to spousal violence cases that have raised concerns in the country recently.
