An apprentice jockey faces a fine and ban from races for whipping his racehorse throughout a race in southeastern Turkey's Şanlıurfa on March 5.
Turkish Jockey Club issued a statement on Saturday and said the rider, who led the horse to collapse near the finish line due to constant whipping, may face further sanctions and a brief ban in addition to the fine and pledged to escalate measures against jockeys maltreating animals.
