Turkish authorities have detained and deported a 15-year-old Swedish girl before she crossed the Turkish-Syrian border in order to allegedly join the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).
Fredrik Malm, a Swedish police chief, told Swedish media that the girl's family had informed police at the last minute. Swedish police informed Turkish authorities and the girl was detained.
Malm said the girl was then deported from Turkey and is now back with her family in Sweden.
Turkey shares an 800-km long border with Syria. Turkish authorities said they are cooperating with other countries to stop the flow of foreign fighters to Syria and Iraq.
