A Turkish court on Thursday fined a shepherd a total of TL 3,000 ($1,033) in the eastern province of Erzurum for beating up his wife, after he held her responsible for losing his dog.
The incident occurred on Oct. 10, 2014 in Erzurum's Palandöken district. The 53 year-old Şefik K. reportedly beat his 49 year-old wife up after he could not find his dog at the residence's stable, upon which the incident was taken to court on charges of 'intentional bodily harm.'
Şefik K. said during court, he needs his dog to watch the cattle, and once he saw that his dog was missing, he got angry and hit his wife.
He said, "I had told my wife to close the stable's [door] for the dog not to get out."
The court has imposed a punitive fine of 150 days in jail on the husband, which corresponded to TL 3,000, but deferred the announcement of the verdict by five years.
