A patient who lived in a hospital for 47 years in Turkey's northwestern province of Bursa, died Friday, on the second day of Eid Al-Adha holiday at age 70.
After completing his military duty, Abdullah Kozan was hospitalized due to a headache when he was 23 years old. Kozan was living in the Bursa State Hospital as he stated he had no family or relatives. Within 47 years, Kozan saw 20 head doctors serving in hospital.
In his latest years, Kozan was suffering from respiratory failure which lead to his death.
Nedime Tümer, the head nurse who worked at the hospital for the last 25 years of his stay, expressed her sorrow for Kozan's death.
"He used to help us when needed. He would pick up x-ray results; he was helping us when we needed to carry something. But now he retired," she said.
Kozan's death during Eid also caused sorrow among other hospital staff.
His body spent a couple of days in the hospital's morgue before being buried. However, Hasan Kozan, claiming that he is Abdullah's brother, showed up at the hospital to pick up the body. The hospital administration, surprised by Hasan's presence, checked the identity information of two brothers and handed the body to the Kozan family.
"I used to visit my brother very often. He was telling us that he wishes to stay in the hospital; the hospital administration is unaware of this. When we heard his death, we came to pick up his body," Hasan Kozan said. Abdullah Kozan's body was layed to rest at Bursa's İnegöl district.
