Turkey will send troops to Armenia in compliance with the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty, Turkish military said Friday.
In a statement posted on its official website, the Turkish General Staff said that the Turkish Armed Forces' inspection team would be sent to Armenia for three days.
"As part of the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty, the CFE inspection will be held in Armenia under the guidance of Turkey between October 11 and 14, 2015. A guest inspector from Slovakia will also attend the course of Turkey's inspection," the statement said.
The statement also added that the Turkish team would return to Turkey on October 14 after carrying out the inspection.
Relations between Turkey and Armenia have been poor since World War I, when a portion of the Armenian population living under the Ottoman Empire sided with the invading Russian forces. The resulting relocations of Armenians from eastern Anatolia led to many deaths.
Armenians say that those casualties amount to "genocide", a claim Turkey has always refuted, pointing out that many Armenians and Turks lost their lives in the tragedy.
Turkey's border with Armenia remains closed since 1994 when the Ankara administration reacted to the Yerevan's occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh-a disputed territory between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
