Though no people were injured in the massive wildfire that hit the southern city of Antalya last week, birds and other animals were injured in the disaster that led to mass evacuations of vacation resorts.
Veterinarian Mert Baylan, who runs a clinic in Kumluca, the district where the wildfire erupted, has initiated a social media campaign to help the animals affected by the wildfire that gutted an area of more than 1,240 acres of woodland.
Baylan says he will not charge for the treatment of animals and he has already received two patients - two Alpine swifts whose wings were severely burned in the fire. He has also treated five dogs and three cats that were nearly suffocated by the smoke.
